Women who took part in 20 minute Hatha yoga session of breathing and yoga postures were found to “perform significantly better in terms of speed and accuracy when tested on their working memory and concentration”
Professor Goethe of the University of Illinois said “meditation and breathing exercises are known to reduce anxiety and stress which in turn can improve scores on some cognitive tests”
“When participants were tested after jogging or doing no exercise they were found to be less able to focus mentally on tasks.”
NHS spends millions on anti depressants – we dont need to!
In 2011, 46.7 million prescriptions for anti-depressants were made in the UK – an increase of 9.1% on the previous year – at a cost of £50 million!
In 2011 15.3 million NHS prescriptions were made for sleep medication. It costs the NHS £50 million a year to keep us in sleeping pills!
I believe that if people learned how to breathe, relax and de-stress they would be healthier and happier and we would have £millions to spend on other things, such as hospitals, schools etc rather than boosting the coffers of the Pharmaceutical Companies.
